Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tanning?

Tanning is an activity which involves positioning yourself beneath an ultraviolet light source to promote a darker sexier tone of your skin. In the summer, just laying out under the sun causes this to happen automatically. In winter time, or when the weather is unpleasant, it is difficult if not impossible to catch a tan.

Here at Tropical Lights, you can tan indoors all year round in a comfortable and private setting. Don't like sand? Afraid of water? You don't need to go to the pool or the beach to get a tan and look great!

Is tanning safe?

Tanning is definitely safe when done in moderation. Tropical Lights provides you with protective eyewear and tanning cream* for use during your tanning session. All beds are cleaned after each session, so fell assured that you will have a safe and worry-free tanning experience.

* tanning cream is provided at additional cost depending on the type you choose.

How long is a typical tanning session?

A typical session length is between 7 and 20 minutes. This time varies depending on which bed you choose.

Do you offer sunless tanning?

Yes. Tropical Lights tanning salons uses the Mystic Tan for indoor sunless tanning. It's UV free.

What should I wear when I tan?

You can wear your undergarments, a bathing suit, or nothing at all. Tropical Lights provides private tanning booths at all of our stores so you can feel comfortable about tanning the way you want to, when you want to.

For sunless tanning, we offer disposable undergarments and hair caps.

How often should I tan?

A regular person with average skin tone should notice results after just one session. Typically, customers come to tan once a week. People with lighter skin tone may need to tan more often to see results, but generally one should tan no more than twice a week.
